Mobile engine and vehicle diagnostics
A warning light tells you something is wrong. It rarely tells you what. We come out, plug into the vehicle, read what the ECU has stored and work through it properly — because a code is a starting point, not an answer.

Almost every car built in the last twenty years monitors itself through one or more ECUs. When something falls outside tolerance, the system logs a fault code and, often, puts a light on the dash.
We read those codes on site and then do the part that matters: work out what is actually causing them. A code pointing at a sensor does not always mean the sensor has failed — it often means something upstream of it has. Twenty-five years of doing this is what tells the difference.
When you need this
Any of these sound familiar?
- Engine management light, EPC light or another warning lamp is on
- The car has gone into limp mode and will not rev past a certain point
- Rough running, misfiring, hesitation or a noticeable drop in power
- Fuel consumption has climbed for no obvious reason
- It failed an MOT on emissions
- A garage has quoted for a part and you want a second opinion first
What the job covers
- Plug in and read stored and pending fault codes across the vehicle systems
- Read live sensor data while the engine runs, which is where most faults show themselves
- Check the basics that throw misleading codes — wiring, connectors, vacuum leaks, earths
- Interpret what the codes actually mean for your vehicle rather than reading them off a list
- Explain the fault in plain terms, along with what it will take to fix
- Clear the codes once the fault is put right, and confirm it stays clear
Why have it done at home?
You don't lose a day to it. No dropping the vehicle off, no arranging a lift back, no waiting for a phone call to say it's ready. We turn up where it's parked, do the work, and you carry on with whatever you were doing.
Diagnostics are charged for the time it takes. If we go on to do the repair, we will tell you where you stand on the diagnostic charge before you commit.
Before we arrive
If the fault only shows up when the engine is cold, or after a certain distance, tell us when you book — it changes how we approach it.
Questions we get asked
Can you just tell me the code over the phone?
Not usefully. The same code can have several causes and the only way to narrow it down is to plug in and look at live data with the engine running.
My light went off by itself. Is it fixed?
Not necessarily. Some faults clear the lamp once the condition passes but leave the code stored. It is worth reading it — an intermittent fault usually comes back, often at a worse moment.
Can you fix it the same visit?
Often, yes, if it is something we carry or can get locally. Bigger jobs we book back in once you know what you are dealing with.
Do you do DPF and emissions faults?
Yes. Diesel particulate filter and emissions-related faults are common round here with a lot of short-journey driving, and we deal with them regularly.
Need vehicle diagnostics?
Book a slot online, or ring and speak to the mechanic who will be doing the job.
Broken down or won't start? Ring rather than book — roadside work can't wait for a slot.
