Mobile exhaust repairs

Exhausts rot from the inside out, and salt on Norfolk roads through the winter does not help. A blow that starts as a rasp under load usually gets worse quickly — and it is an MOT failure once it does.

Do we cover you?

Put your postcode in and we'll tell you straight away.

Most exhaust problems are one of three things: a corroded section that has blown, a broken mounting letting the system knock about, or a heat shield that has rusted loose and rattles.

We replace back boxes, centre sections, front pipes and flexi joints on site, and sort out mountings and heat shields while we are there. If a catalytic converter or DPF has failed, we will tell you honestly what your options are.

When you need this

Any of these sound familiar?

  • A rasping or roaring noise that gets louder under acceleration
  • A rattle from underneath, often worse at idle or over bumps
  • Visible smoke or soot from a joint rather than the tailpipe
  • The exhaust hangs low or has dropped at one end
  • It failed an MOT on exhaust noise or emissions
  • A smell of fumes inside the car

What the job covers

  • Replace back boxes, centre sections and front pipes
  • Replace flexi joints and corroded gaskets
  • Renew broken mountings and rubber hangers
  • Secure or replace rattling heat shields
  • Diagnose catalytic converter and DPF faults and explain the options

Why have it done at home?

You don't lose a day to it. No dropping the vehicle off, no arranging a lift back, no waiting for a phone call to say it's ready. We turn up where it's parked, do the work, and you carry on with whatever you were doing.

Parts prices depend on the vehicle and which section has gone. Send the registration and we will price it up.

Before we arrive

A fumes smell inside the cabin is worth treating as urgent — drive with the windows open and ring us rather than booking online.

Questions we get asked

Is a blowing exhaust an MOT failure?

Yes, if the noise is excessive or fumes are escaping before the silencer. It will also usually get worse rather than better.

Can you just weld it?

Sometimes, if the surrounding metal is sound. If the pipe is thin and rotten all round, a weld will not hold and replacing the section is the honest answer.

My exhaust rattles but sounds fine. What is it?

Nine times out of ten it is a heat shield that has rusted at its mounting. It is a quick fix and worth doing before it falls off completely.
